Happy Friday, everyone! Today's snippet comes from my Agent Ko series. This is an awkward exchange between Ko and a boy from the Academy named Jin-Sun.
Ko couldn’t have guessed how long she and Jin-Sun stared at one another. Her throat was dry, like cracked land desperate for rainfall. When her voice was finally ready to cooperate, she gestured to a patch of floor. “Do you want to sit down?” It came out more like a squeak than a question, but Jin-Sun scurried down and Ko did the same, leaving a good meter of space between them. He stared at his hands in his lap, scratching at his knuckle with his thumb. He glanced up once and caught Ko’s eye. They both looked away. What had Chun-Hee been thinking? Why did she leave them alone here like this?
“Do you want to scoot …”
“Do you mind if I …”
“Sorry.” Jin-Sun’s tone made Ko guess he was apologizing for more than just interrupting.
How about you? What's an awkward time you've had with someone else? Leave a comment!
