Four years ago, I published my very first novel, a Christian suspense story highlighting religious persecution in North Korea. Little did I know that book would begin a partnership between me and Liberty in North Korea, aka LiNK, aka the best charity in the world.
What makes LiNK the bomb? First of all, I love the fact that LiNK is on the ground in East Asia helping North Korean refugees find freedom. We're talking underground railroads. We're talking brave men and women risking fines, imprisonment, and sometimes even torture for the sake of freedom.
Is it any wonder that a suspense novelist like myself would fall in love with folks like that?
One of my dreams was to use my book royalties to support mission work around the world. I started praying early on for the right partnership with the right organization. There are some fabulous groups working in North Korea, and there are some fabulous people ministering to the persecuted church, but it wasn't until I got in touch with the folks at LiNK that I felt I'd found I group I could truly partner with.
A lot of charities were doing great work that I'd be happy to support, but they wouldn't know who I was. They wouldn't read my novels or field my research questions while I was working on my next story.
Liberty in North Korea is a grassroots organization, and until I linked up with them (see what I did there?), I didn't even know for sure what that phrase meant. But the fact that LiNK is grassroots means they're working with a "bottom-up" philosophy. They're partnering with the little guys, the everyday folks, the college students with their bake sales or the church group with their collection plate or the Christian indie author with her small labors of love (i.e. her novels).
Through LiNK, my readers (that's you!) and I raised enough money to fund the rescue of a little ten-year-old girl in 2015, and right now we're just a few hundred dollars away from our $3,000 goal. Did I mention yet that all the funds donated cover on-the-ground expenses? That means 100% of the money raised goes directly to their underground railroad.
If you want to be involved, this week is a great time to donate because a matching grant means that all funds raised will be doubled! It will bring us that much closer to our fundraising goal. And the other cool thing is when you donate, if you email me your receipt I'll send you ONE FREE NOVEL A MONTH for the next year. Who doesn't want more books to read, right?!
When you're ready, just donate to Liberty in North Korea's underground railroad (and if you want to get the free ebooks just email your receipt to firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thanks so much for making a difference in the lives of North Korean refugees!!
