Hi WIPpet friends! I'm shin-deep (not quite knee-deep, but significantly more than ankle-deep) into JuNoWriMo, so this will be short and sweet. Here are 9 (6 + 3 for 6/3) paragraphs introducing you to Ko's roommate Chune-Hee.
“Chung-Hee!” Ryuk called again.
“I heard you the first time.” She stepped out of a small room. She was only a year or two older than Ko but quite taller. She glared at Ryuk. “You sound like a drunken rooster when you caw like that.” She wore a loose-fitting night robe and crossed her arms over her chest.
“New recruit?” Chun-Hee didn’t bother to look at Ko, who felt about as limp and useless as Woong’s old rag doll.
Ryuk put a stabilizing hand on the small of Ko’s back and prodded her forward, a shepherd gently guiding its sheep. “This is Ko.” He set the bag by her feet.
Chun-Hee gave a little shrug and eyed the duffel. “That all you bring?” She didn’t give Ko a chance to respond. “Come on. My roommate just got kicked out, so I guess that means you’re bunking with me.”
Ko picked up the bag and followed, glancing back once at Ryuk.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” he whispered, and relief rushed over Ko’s whole body, spreading its comforting heat all the way up to her cheeks.
“Hurry up.” Chun-Hee spoke brusquely without waiting for any further exchange of pleasantries. “Nothing the director hates more than a dawdler.”
A slight smile vanished as suddenly as it appeared.
