It's Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a fabulous week. It's cold here, which gives me a good excuse to stay in and work on my Agent Ko series. It's coming along. I'm about halfway through part five of six. The end is in sight!
Who is Agent Ko? Maybe today's WIPpet Wednesday snippet will give you a glimpse.
“I have something for you.”
Whatever it was, Ko knew she didn’t want it. Knew she didn’t need yet another reason to be indebted to a man like Ryuk. His physical proximity intimidated her and made her core muscles turn into the consistency of cooked noodles, but she found herself expecting, hoping for some sign of affection from him while they sat beneath the restaurant’s dim lights.
The watch he handed her was fancy. Obviously expensive. Tiny diamonds encircled its face. He fastened the feminine strap around her wrist. “Gorgeous,” he breathed.
The waiter brought their drinks and Ryuk lifted his glass for a toast. “In honor of friendship.”
Ko couldn’t determine if his smile made her want to run away forever or bury herself against his chest until morning.
She took a small sip, let her taste buds adjust to the new experience.
“Do you like it?” Ryuk asked, his glass still raised as if he were about to offer another toast.
Ko smiled and took another dainty sip, wincing as it scalded her throat. “Yes, thank you.”
Ryuk sat back in his seat. He looked so casual. So composed. Nobody in the restaurant would have guessed who he was. What he was capable of. He looked more like a professor than an agent, a professor who could fail a student but certainly never kill one.
