Well, it's the end of the day but still not too late to get in a WIPpet Wednesday post! This is a deleted snippet from the fourth Kennedy Stern novel, due out this fall.
Woong was eating next to her, and she was struck by how quiet and compliant he was at the table. Sandy gave him two sandwiches to start with, and as soon as he was down to only a few bites left, she plopped another one on his plate. He wiped some ketchup off his mouth with his fist and mumbled, “Thank you” before sinking his teeth in.
“Do you like your sandwich?” Kennedy asked him once he finished his fourth helping.
He nodded and took a noisy gulp of grape juice. “Mrs. Cho at the orphanage never made anything like this,” he told her in Korean.
“I’m sure she did the best she …”
“You talk funny,” Woong interrupted.
