I hope you all have had a lovely week so far! It's Friday, which means another installment of Christian Fiction Friday, where authors post snippets from their current works in progress.
Unplanned is now officially live on amazon for pre-order, so I'm moving on to a new project. Meet Agent Ko.
The patrol car sauntered by wheezing like an invalid. Ko crouched at the bottom of a tree trunk and waited. She couldn’t afford to rush. Success was the only option here. She wasn’t about to get sloppy. There was no fear. Funny. She thought she’d have been at least a little afraid.
The vehicle passed by, leaving only the smell of diesel and exhaust. Ko swallowed down a cough. Strange to think that an autonomic reflex could botch it all. She clenched her throat muscles. Her body would never betray her.
The patrol car would return in another five and a half minutes. Still, there was no hurrying. This was her moment, after all. She would take her time, relish the aroma of conquest. Even the air tasted different. The savory satisfaction of success.
Her plans allocated a full minute to climb the tree. She reached the top branch with fifteen seconds to spare, give or take. She still wore the watch Ryuk gave her, but she didn’t check. Time was measured here by the reliable rhythm of her heart. Even when the she transferred her weight to the narrow ledge outside the third-story window, her pulse only increased by a decimal. Death was down beneath her if she fell, but her balance was as steady as if she had been perching precariously on window projections her entire life.
A creak from inside. Intel was eighty-percent certain she was outside the bedroom of a mid-level staffer, but who could guarantee? Room assignments could change on a nightly basis. Who would she meet once she was inside? It didn’t matter. She was ready.
