Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I just finished drafting my second Agent Ko novella. The idea is to have a whole bunch of serialized novellas about her time at the Academy. I'm trying to decide if "Ko Book 1" is ready for betas. If you might be interested in a 20k read, let me know!
For my WIPpet, I'd like to introduce you to Ko's roommate at the Academy, Chun-Hee. Ko has just offered to help Chun-Hee with their classwork. Here are five paragraphs since it's the fifth month.
“Do you know why I don’t study?” Chun-Hee cut her off. “Do you know why I act like I don’t care about Ryuk’s stupid history lessons? Because men are terrified of smart women. Hate to break it to you, brainy, but that’s one truth that’s been around longer than the entire dynasty. So you'll do the memorizing. You end up in some nerdy desk job. You fight imperialists with Jin-Sun doing his computer genius thing, both of you safe in your little cubicles. Who knows, maybe you even marry him and live monogamously ever after and make little miniature brainiacs to take over your jobs when you both die of old age. Meanwhile, do you know what I do? I wait for men like the director to give me my next assignment. I wait for the dosier that tells me exactly what they like, what little secrets fantasies they dream about. And then what? I play out those dreams for them, just so some stupid brute like Tae can come assassinate them in the morning. Or I mine all the information out of their little lusty heads and pass that intel on to brainy folks like you in your safe little offices. That’s what I’m here for.”
She stared sullenly at the wine.
“You’ve never even been with a man, have you?”
Ko shook her head.
Chun-Hee took another swig and finished off the bottle. “Then you’re one of the lucky ones.”
Random Fact: I had my first cup of wine AND my first cup of coffee on my honeymoon. Talk about sheltered!
Blog Love: Huge thanks to K L Schwengel for hosting the WIPpet Wednesday blog hop, where authors post snippets from their current Works In Progress.
